Compress Image to 500KB Online
Prepare an image for larger sharing copies. The 500 KB target is selected below; the result tells you whether it was reached.
Choose images. Make them smaller.

More formats & batch details
Also opens HEIC/HEIF, GIF, SVG and PDF. Animation exports as a still image; SVG is rasterised. Single PDF imports let you choose a page; batches use the first page. AVIF support depends on your browser.
Batch mode uses format, quality and width settings, without a KB target. For a specific file-size limit, select one image.
How to use this workflow
- Choose the original file and confirm the destination's minimum dimensions and accepted formats.
- Keep the 500 KB target, choose a format and set maximum width. Disable extra resizing if minimum dimensions matter.
- Compress and check actual bytes, dimensions and visible detail. If the target is missed, change the settings or use a less detailed source.
What to check before saving
A 500 KB budget leaves more room than a small form limit, but a high-resolution texture can still miss it. Start with the desired display size before reducing quality.
Inputs are limited to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, SVG and selected PDF pages are supported. Exports are JPG, PNG, WebP or browser-supported AVIF; animation and source metadata are not retained.
Your files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers. Normal website requests still reach the hosting service. Read the privacy policy.
Questions & answers
Should I make every website image 500 KB?
No. A small thumbnail often needs much less data. Choose dimensions and quality for the actual display, and measure page performance rather than using one budget everywhere.
Does the output have to be exactly 500 KB?
The goal is 500000 bytes or less, not padding the file to an exact size. Complex images may still exceed the target; always inspect the reported result.

Use a 500 KB budget for a readable delivery copy
For an illustrative product-image job, suppose the recipient accepts JPG up to 500,000 bytes and needs a 1600-pixel-wide landscape image. Start from the full-size master, choose width 1600 and keep additional resizing off. A source narrower than 1600 is not enlarged.
- Process at the 500 KB target, then inspect the product label, texture and edges at the display size.
- If the result passes both the byte limit and the visual check, keep it. There is no need to force it down to 100 KB just because another preset exists.
- If text blurs, retry from the master at higher maximum quality. If the target cannot be met with acceptable detail, reconsider the source or ask whether the delivery limit can change.
One image versus a whole collection
A 500 KB target applies to a single image, not the total size of an email or a batch. Ten files at that limit can total five million bytes before message encoding. Batch mode has no individual KB target; process files separately when each must pass a strict ceiling.
Diagnose your exported file
Match the symptom to the next action. These checks describe this tool’s current implementation; they are not a guarantee that another website will accept the result.
The result is under 500 KB but the form still rejects it.
A form may check dimensions, format, or image content separately from byte size.
Next action: Read every requirement before exporting. Here 500 KB means 500000 bytes. Check the reported dimensions, open the downloaded file, and confirm its real format. Leave some room below the limit if the destination uses a different measurement.
The size target was reached by making the image too small.
Allowing additional resizing lets the compressor reduce dimensions after trying lower quality.
Next action: Disable additional resizing and choose the required width before another export from the original. If the target is then missed, keep the readable version and reconsider the source or destination limit. Do not upload an unreadable document just because its bytes fit.
If the result still fails, report the exact error and your browser. Include the settings and output dimensions, but do not send private images or identity documents.
